Kevin 'eclectik' Mowbray was born in Canada in the 70's. He started collecting records in grade school. His early influences were classic rock, motown, and the funk and soul music popular in that era. His vinyl collection really started to grow when the 80's arrived, and he started making mixtapes of new wave, post-punk, ska, and 80's club music. In 1987 he bought his first dj mixer from Radio Shack and with two old turntables started to make mixtapes known for an 'eclectic' mix of genres and interesting soundbytes from movies.
When early Hip Hop records started to emerge in the mid to late 80's, eclectik got hooked on the art of Turntablism - more than simply matching beats and blending songs, but the cuts, scratches, and tricks made famous by the pioneer battle dj's of that era.
In 1997 eclectik invested in proper turntables and a mixer and took his show on the road. Combining his love for both dj'ing and travel, eclectik started touring South East Asia in the late 90's playing gigs such as Boracay, Philippines where he was also featured on a local entertainment TV show.
At home in Vancouver, he continues to rock the decks and has rececntly played The Commodore, Fortune, Gossip, Republic, Granville Room, Barnone, Shine, Caprice, Venue, The Pit Pub, The Cambie, and The Savage Beagle and Garf's in Whistler.
He has shared the stage with famous artists and has appeared several times on MTV Canada as the on air dj personality. Eclectik still travels to Asia on the regular where he rocks international crowds in Vietnam at Guava Bar, The Sailing Club, Vasco's, Lush & the Hard Rock Cafe. In the Philippines he's played at several spots on Boracay including Gilly's Island and Deja Vu. In Cambodia he recently dj'd with Skerrit Bwoy of Major Lazer at Pontoon Club, Phnom Penh - pictures here. Back home in Vancouver, eclectik works days as an Optometrist - City TV has done a nice news spot showcasing his 'double life' - doctoring eyes in the daytime and doctoring sick beats after dark!
